Windows Vista beta 1 インストール (2)

前回、http://d.hatena.ne.jp/big-edge/20050730/1122798827 で VMXNet のドライバがインストールできず、NIC が認識されなかった Windows Vista beta 1 on VMware Workstation 4.5.2 を再チャレンジ。

せっかくなので Vista を再セットアップ。セットアップ自体は普通に終わって NIC が認識できない状況まで到達。ここで、VMware の Forums で見つけた情報を試してみることに。

まずは、VMware Tools インストールフォルダ内の VMXNet ドライバを手動で適用してみる方法を試してみるが、ドライバのインストールが失敗してしまって結局認識しなかった。

I manually choosed to update the driver (from the Device Manager) and manually selected the driver (if you installed the VMware tools, it should be in Program Files/VMware/VMware Tools/Drivers/vmxnet). The manual installation did work.

次に、AMD のサイトから NIC のドライバをダウンロードする方法でチャレンジ。Windows Server 2003 用と Windows XP 用のドライバがあったが、Windows Server 2003 用のを適用したところ、あっさり NIC 認識。そういえば、Windows NT 4.0 とか他の OS でも AMD の NIC として認識されたことがあったっけ。

I used this driver (wdmdrv driver from the SBPCI_WebDrvsV5_12_01.exe archive) to get my sound working in Vista beta 1 (you MUST have the vmware tools installed first though)

ということで、めでたくネットワーク接続大成功。これで検証を始めることができる。そういえば Audio のドライバも適用されてなかったけれど、それは検証には不要なので放置することにしよう。Creative のサイトにあるドライバを適用すればいいのかもしれないけど。

そういえば、はてなダイアリーをふらふらしていたら、Google Desktop Search プラグイン for Becky! を使わせていただいている shintarou3 氏も id:shintarou3:20050802#1122956906 で似た境遇だった模様。あちらは VMware Tools フォルダ以下のドライバで解決されたみたい。
